Secure a future for birds
Sadly, most North American bird species are declining. However, private landowners have tremendous potential to impact conservation by considering the needs of their feathered friends when making land-management decisions. Even small spaces, such as half-acre backyards, have potential to become havens for breeding, overwintering, and migratory birds with a few simple landscape changes.

A product of providing spaces for birds to nest and forage on your property is better viewing opportunities, and a clearer window into the fascinating lives of local bird species.

Barred Owl house construction
$350
Owls are highly secretive birds, allowing them to maintain an aura of mystery. However, by putting up an owl house on your property, you can gain a window into the fascinating lives of these special birds. Barred Owls are common throughout the eastern U.S., particularly near running water, such as in bottomland forest along rivers and streams. I handmake Barred Owl houses from solid white pine, and include a plexiglass roof that allows sunlight to enter the box to most accurately simulate their preferred natural nest sites.

Eastern Screech-Owl handmade nest box
$150
Like Barred Owls, Eastern Screech-Owls are well-adapted to densely populated areas, such as suburban neighborhoods. These tiny owls will readily use nest boxes provided by homeowners.

Owl house installation
$200 (Barred Owl) or $125 (screech-owl)
Both Barred Owls and Eastern Screech-Owls enjoy living high off the ground, making housing installation tricky. Besides mounting the house, my installation service includes finding the best location for the house based on the preferences of the species.
